How to Whiten My Teeth at Home (You'll be Impressed)
By Rashko Arnaudov/ Last Updated December 24, 2023
Ensuring good oral hygiene and preserving the whiteness of our teeth is imperative for various reasons that extend beyond cosmetic considerations. This commitment to oral health is fundamental for overall well-being and contributes to different aspects of our lives.
The state of our oral health is intricately linked to our general well-being. Poor oral hygiene has been correlated with systemic health issues, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and respiratory infections. By maintaining clean teeth and healthy gums, we actively support our overall health and diminish the risk of developing serious medical conditions.
Regular and diligent oral care practices, encompassing brushing and flossing, play a pivotal role in preventing common dental problems like cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. Addressing these issues in their early stages is paramount to avoiding more severe complications, including tooth loss, which can significantly impact speech, eating, and overall quality of life.
A radiant, healthy smile has a profound impact on self-confidence and influences our social and professional interactions. The psychological benefits of feeling positive about our oral health and the appearance of our teeth contribute significantly to our overall sense of well-being.
Consistent oral care helps thwart the accumulation of plaque and stains on our teeth. Discoloration, often caused by substances like coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco, can be mitigated through proper oral hygiene practices and mindful lifestyle choices, preserving the natural whiteness of our teeth and fostering a more vibrant smile.
For individuals who have undergone dental procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, or fillings, maintaining good oral hygiene is paramount for the durability of these interventions. A steadfast oral care routine contributes to preserving the results of dental treatments and reduces the likelihood of complications.
How to Whiten my Teeth?
Achieving a brighter smile can be straightforward with a few simple practices. Start by maintaining a consistent oral hygiene routine, brushing your teeth twice and thrice a day with a whitening toothpaste to remove surface stains. Incorporate flossing to clean between teeth and prevent plaque buildup.
Explore natural remedies like oil pulling with coconut oil, known for its potential teeth-whitening properties. Additionally, consider incorporating baking soda into your routine, as its mild abrasive nature can help remove stains.
Limit the consumption of teeth-staining substances such as coffee, tea, and red wine. If you indulge, rinse your mouth with water afterward to minimize their impact. Drinking water throughout the day also helps flush away food particles and reduce the risk of staining. But here are the exact products that helped me get that ”Hollywood Smile” I’ve been dreaming of.
1) Use Glo Lit Teeth Whitening Tech Kit
I prefer my teeth whitening procedure to be done at home rather than at a dentist. It’s not that the procedure at the dentist is painful, but just stepping into the clinic’s threshold makes me nervous (this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit your dentist at all).
I found a solution to my problem with the Glo Brilliant Whitening Kit. Before I bought it, I tried whitening my teeth with baking soda, ate a lot of fruits and vegetables, bought almost every whitening paste I could, and brushed my teeth three times a day. Yes, I definitely noticed some amount of teeth whitening but it was definitely not what I got with this product.
GLO Science claims to remove stains and whiten teeth up to 5 shades within 7 days with just three 8-minute sessions per day. The set contains 10 vials, one vial is intended for who days (including the six sessions you need to perform over the two days). After completing the entire procedure of 7 consecutive days, it is good to maintain the achived effect tp apply the gel at least once a month or when you notice that it is necessary. Don’t forget that after applying the gel on the last session of the day, you don’t have to eat or drink.
I have been using the Glo Lit Teeth Whitening Tech Kit for 3 days. The effect is tangible and I notice it. I think I’ve whitened my teeth 1.5 to 2 shades so far, and I think it’s quite realistic to reach 4 to 5 shades after day seven. Impressive!
The Glo Brilliant light has a built-in timer, which means that when you put the device in your mouth, the timer automatically counts down 8 minutes and alerts you when the time is up, ensuring that you don’t exceed the time on each session.
Their whitening gel is vegan, gluten-free, and designed to reduce tooth sensitivity, a common problem.
Advice
Considering that you have to do 4 sessions over 5 days and the session itself is 8 minutes, there is a huge chance that your lips will dry out and crack. That’s why I advise you before each session to apply a lip balm to your lips to retain moisture! In addition to keeping lips from drying out and cracking, the balm protects from the light the device produces!
The gel doesn’t taste bad compared to other gels I’ve tried and I didn’t feel any sensitivity on both my teeth and gums while applying it. However, results may vary, and just because I didn’t experience any discomfort doesn’t mean you won’t either. If you experience any form of discomfort or irritation, consult your dentist immediately.
Pros
- The serum will adhere to your teeth without slipping off.
- Simple to operate.
- There is low risk of sensitivity.
- Swift and efficient outcomes.
Cons
- Applying the gel can be inconvenient.
- Limited battery duration.
The Results: A brighter smile, indeed
In general, I have always dreamed of having Sparkling white teeth. I can safely say that I am the closest to realizing this dream with the GLO Brilliant whitening kit. After only 3 days of using it, it is clear that my teeth have whitened 1 to 1.5 shades. Using the product for another 4 days as recommended by Glo Science I think it is possible to achieve 3 to 4 shades whiter. Impressive!

2) Brush your teeth regularly
Maintaining the habit of daily teeth brushing is crucial for keeping your smile vibrant. If you haven’t been consistent with brushing, start doing so immediately. For those already brushing daily but experiencing yellowing, consider brushing more frequently, especially after meals or drinks known to cause teeth discoloration. However, avoid brushing immediately after consuming acidic foods or drinks to prevent potential erosion.
For an added touch of radiance to your smile, consider incorporating tooth-whitening toothpaste. These toothpaste varieties utilize gentle abrasives to effectively eliminate stubborn stains from tooth surfaces. If you encounter any issues with such toothpaste, seeking advice from your dentist is a recommended step.
3) Include fruits and vegetables in your diet
Consuming certain fruits and vegetables can contribute to a brighter, whiter smile. Crunchy and fibrous fruits and vegetables have a natural abrasiveness that helps scrub away surface stains on teeth. Apples, carrots, and celery, for example, can assist in removing plaque and promoting saliva production, which aids in maintaining a cleaner and brighter appearance.
Additionally, strawberries are known for containing malic acid, a natural teeth-whitening agent. The malic acid in strawberries can help break down surface stains and discoloration on teeth. Incorporating these fruits and vegetables into your diet not only supports overall health but can also contribute to a naturally whiter smile over time.
Crunchy vegetables and fruits not only provide natural abrasion but also stimulate saliva production, which helps neutralize acids and cleanse the mouth. Broccoli and cauliflower, for instance, are not only nutritious but can also contribute to maintaining a cleaner, whiter smile.
Incorporating these teeth-friendly fruits and vegetables into your diet, along with practicing regular oral hygiene habits, can contribute to a naturally brighter and healthier smile.
4) Brush with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste
Baking soda possesses teeth-whitening properties, which is why it is commonly featured in toothpaste advertisements. Its mildly abrasive nature aids in removing stains from the tooth surface. In contrast, hydrogen peroxide serves as a natural bleaching agent with antibacterial properties. People have employed hydrogen peroxide for years to combat bacteria on wounds.
Imagine combining these two substances to create a toothpaste – a perfect solution for teeth whitening! Simply mix one tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to form a paste. While it’s not an instant transformation, using this paste regularly during your daily teeth brushing routine will gradually reveal a noticeable difference in the whiteness of your teeth.
You can create a mouthwash using the same proportion of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, diluted with water. While both components are generally safe, if you suspect any error, such as using the wrong ingredients, seek immediate advice from your dentist.
5) Oil pulling
Oil pulling, a traditional practice among Indians for teeth whitening, is also designed to enhance overall oral health and hygiene. The technique involves swishing oil in your mouth, and while any oil can be used, sunflower oil and sesame oil are commonly preferred. Coconut oil is also a popular choice due to its pleasant taste and additional health benefits.
The effectiveness of oil pulling lies in its ability to eliminate various types of bacteria from the mouth. These bacteria are responsible for plaque formation and teeth discoloration. Therefore, incorporating oil pulling into your dental care routine can prove highly beneficial in your pursuit of achieving whiter teeth.
While there is no scientific evidence validating the effectiveness of oil pulling for teeth whitening, individuals who have employed this method express satisfaction with the outcomes. Moreover, there is no harm in experimenting with it, right?
To engage in oil pulling with coconut oil, simply take one tablespoon and swish it in your mouth. Repeat this process for 15 to 20 minutes.
It’s important to note that oil pulling should not replace regular oral hygiene practices, including brushing and flossing. If you are considering oil pulling as part of your routine, consulting with your dentist is advisable to ensure it aligns with your overall oral health goals.

Can yellow teeth become white again?
Yes, yellow teeth can often become whiter with various teeth-whitening methods. Professional dental treatments, over-the-counter whitening products, and natural remedies can help reduce stains and discoloration, restoring a brighter and whiter appearance to the teeth. It’s essential to consult with a dentist to determine the most suitable and effective whitening option based on individual oral health.
Why do teeth go yellow?
Yes, teeth can develop a yellowish tint due to various factors. One common reason is the consumption of staining foods and beverages, including coffee, tea, red wine, and certain foods. Additionally, tobacco use, whether through smoking or chewing, can contribute to teeth yellowing over time. Inadequate oral hygiene practices, such as infrequent brushing and flossing, can lead to the accumulation of plaque and tartar, causing discoloration.
The natural aging process is another factor, as the outer enamel layer of the teeth naturally wears down with time, revealing the yellowish dentin underneath. Genetic factors may also play a role, as some individuals may be genetically predisposed to tooth discoloration.
Certain medications, especially tetracycline antibiotics, can cause intrinsic stains on teeth during tooth development, leading to long-term discoloration. Dental trauma or injury to the teeth can result in immediate or gradual discoloration as well.
Understanding the specific cause of tooth discoloration is crucial for determining the most effective whitening solutions. Consulting with a dentist can help identify the underlying factors and recommend appropriate treatment options, ranging from professional dental procedures to over-the-counter whitening products.
How can I whiten my teeth in 3 days?
Achieving noticeable teeth whitening in just three days is possible with the GLO Lit Teeth Whitening Tech Kit. I experienced a brightening of 1 to 1.5 shades within this short timeframe, thanks to the effective and quick results delivered by the GLO Lit kit. It’s a convenient and efficient solution for those looking to enhance their smile in a short span.
Does brushing 3 times a day whiten teeth?
Brushing your teeth three times a day is beneficial for oral hygiene and can contribute to maintaining a healthier smile. While regular brushing helps remove surface stains and prevent plaque buildup, it may not necessarily lead to significant teeth whitening on its own. To achieve noticeable teeth whitening, additional measures such as using whitening toothpaste, undergoing professional dental treatments, or employing at-home whitening kits may be more effective.
Will baking soda damage teeth?
Using baking soda for teeth whitening is generally considered safe when done occasionally. However, frequent and abrasive use of baking soda may have the potential to erode tooth enamel over time. Enamel erosion can lead to tooth sensitivity and other dental issues.
It’s important to use baking soda with caution, avoid excessive scrubbing, and not make it a daily habit. If you have concerns or pre-existing dental conditions, it’s advisable to consult with a dentist before incorporating baking soda into your oral care routine. Additionally, utilizing toothpaste specifically formulated for whitening purposes may be a safer and more regulated option.
Advice
I advise you to resort to baking soda and oil pulling only after trying other methods (eating more fruits and vegetables, using the GLO Lit Teeth Whitening Tech Kit, and whitening toothpaste). With them, not only is the risk reduced to a minimum, but also from personal experience I believe that the effect is significantly better.
