Wyze Video Doorbell Pro

One of the main advantages of the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro over the competition is the relatively low price while offering an exceptional set of features. It has excellent recording quality and does not require a subscription to store the recorded videos. The downside for me is the less impressive design, but that aside, I think this is a doorbell that would fit seamlessly into anyone’s household.

However, if you’re not going to splurge on lower-budget doorbells like this, you might want to check out our comprehensive guide to the best smart security cameras, from low-budget to state-of-the-art construction.

Wyze Video Doorbell Pro: Features

The Wyze doorbell is battery-powered, which the company claims can last up to 6 months before needing to be recharged. The battery uses two 3250 mAh rechargeable batteries that are built into the doorbell and cannot be removed. But in addition to a cordless setup, the doorbell also comes with a wired setup, so you can connect it to existing wiring from your previous doorbells.

Another personally impressive feature for me is that the Wyze doorbell starts shooting about three seconds before any motion is detected. It records in head-to-toe aspect ratio with a 150-degree horizontal and vertical field of view, so you can see virtually everything at your front door. The field of view is significantly improved over its predecessor, where the field of view is 120 degrees vertically and only 88 degrees horizontally.

This ring video doorbell records in a resolution of 1440 by 1440 pixels, and has dual Wi-Fi and a stronger connection with 2.4GHz/ 5GHz Wi-Fi.

Wyze Video Doorbell Pro: Design

The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro presents a simple and unassuming design. Its main body is predominantly white, with glossy black accents for the camera and infrared sensor. On the rear side, you’ll find two screw contacts for hardwiring and a micro USB port concealed by a rubber flap for recharging purposes. Regrettably, the design of the video doorbell does not facilitate connection to the Wyze Solar Panel. Moreover, the device lacks local storage capability, necessitating all video storage to be directed to the cloud.

Wyze Doorbell Installation

There are 2 versions of installing the ring video doorbell which is cool. One is the cable-free mounting, so if you don’t want to connect it to your existing electrical installations in the house or you don’t have any, you just need to place the device on the back stand and stick the Wyze-provided self-adhesive 3M tape on the stand, then to peel off the other side and stick to the surface of your choice.

The second way of installing is by attaching the wall plate with the help of screws. How does this happen? First you need to install the wall tile with two screwsthat are included in the package. Now that you’ve mounted the plate, it’s time to attach the device to it. this is done by snapping the Video Doorbell against the prongs of the stand and sliding it down to lock it into the plate.

Either way, the installation process itself is completed by tightening the security screw at the bottom of the device using the included torx driver.

Wyze App Settings

The Wyze Video Doorbell also works with the Wyze app. The home screen features a panel showcasing the device’s name alongside the most recent still capture, providing users quick access to essential information and visual updates.

Press the panel to initiate a live stream of the doorbell’s perspective. Beneath the video display, you’ll find buttons for auto-zoom, muting the speaker, and activating the microphone for two-way communication. Tap the three dots to reveal options for waking snapshots, recording footage, and enabling night vision. Towards the bottom of the screen, there is a timeline showcasing event recordings. Simply tap any box on the timeline to play, delete, or save the corresponding video.

Tap the gear icon in the screen’s top right corner to customize motion detection and event recording preferences, manage notifications, activate Power Saving and Wide Dynamic Range modes, check the remaining battery percentage, and adjust chime sounds. Additionally, this menu allows you to establish rules for the doorbell’s interaction with other Wyze devices and grant access to other users.

Wyze App

Features available with a subscription

To unlock the full range of features on the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro, you’ll need to opt for Wyze’s Cam Plus subscription service. This grants you access to advanced functionalities such as person, package, vehicle, and pet detection, alongside unlimited video recordings with no wait time between them.

Without the subscription, you’ll encounter limitations: videos are capped at 12 seconds and there’s a 5-minute interval between recordings, which may not be ideal for continuous monitoring.

The good news is that Wyze’s Cam Plus subscription stands out as the most economical option among security camera plans. Priced at $1.99 per month per camera, or $1.25 per month per camera with an annual subscription, it offers significant savings compared to competitors like Ring, Nest, and Arlo, which charge higher monthly fees. However, Nest’s plan covers all devices at a single location, making it potentially more budget-friendly if you’re considering extensive surveillance.

Decent support for smart home integration.

The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing integration into the Amazon Echo and Google Home ecosystems. While the live view isn’t directly accessible through these apps, you can view it on compatible smart displays such as the Amazon Echo Show 10 and second-generation Google Nest Hub.

The doorbell is compatible with Alexa Routines, a useful home automation feature. However, to utilize this functionality, you’ll need to subscribe to Wyze’s Cam Plus plan. For instance, a routine could be set up to activate outdoor smart lights and lock the front door smart lock when motion is detected by the doorbell at night.

Conclusion

The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro is a good option for any household for me. It has a wide view, which practically allows you to see everything about the entrance door, it can be installed in two ways (using dowels and self-adhesive tape), depending on personal desire. The image quality is extremely clear. which allows each face to be clearly distinguished both during the day and at night.

On the other hand, you have to keep in mind that when the doorbell’s battery dies, to recharge it fully, you need to remove the entire video doorbell. Another downside is the not-so-attractive design as well as being limited to 1 color, so for something more stylish I like the modern look and color options offered on the more expensive Nest doorbell.

But still, you’d be hard-pressed to find a ring video doorbell under $100 like Wyze’s that comes with night vision, and water, is mostly weatherproof, and is super easy to install. Considering the things

Is the WYZE doorbell wired or wireless?

The Wyze doorbell offers the versatility of both wired and wireless configurations, ensuring compatibility with various setups and preferences. It can be seamlessly integrated into existing hardwired systems, utilizing two screw contacts located on the back for direct connection.

Alternatively, it can operate wirelessly, relying on its internal battery for power, which can be conveniently recharged via a micro USB port. This flexibility empowers users to choose the installation method that best suits their requirements and environment, whether they prefer the stability of a wired connection or the convenience of a wireless setup.e

Does Wyze work without Wi-FI?

Wyze devices typically rely on Wi-Fi connectivity to function optimally, enabling features such as remote monitoring, notifications, and cloud storage. Without a Wi-Fi connection, the full functionality of Wyze devices may be limited or unavailable. However, some features, such as basic local recording or manual control, may still be accessible without Wi-Fi, depending on the specific device and its capabilities.

Does the Wyze Video Doorbell require a subscription?

No, the Wyze Video Doorbell does not require a subscription for basic functionality. Users can access essential features such as live streaming, motion detection, and two-way audio without any subscription fee. To access additional features, you’ll need to switch to Wyze Cam Plus, priced at just $1.99 per month. With Wyze Cam Plus, you unlock benefits such as fast-forwarding, detection for individuals, vehicles, pets, and packages, as well as unlimited video duration.

How does the Wyze Video Doorbell work?

The Wyze Video Doorbell operates by connecting to your home’s Wi-Fi network and integrating with the Wyze app on your smartphone or tablet. Once installed and set up, the doorbell captures video footage of its surroundings, including motion events and visitors at your door.

This footage is then accessible via the Wyze app, allowing you to view live streams, receive notifications, and interact with visitors using two-way audio. Additionally, the doorbell can be customized with various settings for motion detection, video recording, and more, providing users with enhanced security and convenience features.
